This year, we are welcoming two new members to the board: Allan Gabriele and William Schmuhl. They join the board with impressive financial backgrounds and experience.

Allan Gabriele:
Allan is a practicing accountant and a member of the Illinois C.P.A. Society. Prior to creating his own firm, Gabriele & Associates in 1984, he was with Price Waterhouse for five years. Allan held the position of Vice President-Controller for Great American Management & Investment, and Equity Realty, Inc., two companies controlled by the Zell group. In addition to a high concentration of real estate clients, he has been active in many facets of real estate from owning and operating properties to fund raising for larger projects. He holds a B.B.A. degree in finance from the University of Notre Dame and an M.B.A. degree from the University of California at Los Angeles. After 20 years working in Chicago, Allan recently moved his practice to Valparaiso and he is looking forward to being involved with the local non-profit community as a board member of Discovery. He will serve as Board Treasurer.

William Schmuhl:
William J. Schmuhl, Jr., was born in Michigan City, Indiana, and currently lives in South Bend. He is married, the father of two grown children and has two grandchildren. He is a member of the teaching faculty in the Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame where he teaches introductory courses in Financial and Managerial Accounting. His earlier experience was in the business sector with positions in general and financial management, and the practices of law and public accounting.
He has his undergraduate and law degrees from Notre Dame, his MBA from the University of Chicago and is a Certified Public Accountant. He serves on the Board of Directors of Heywood Williams USA, Inc., MISCOR Group, Ltd., Reith-Riley Construction Co., Inc. and JSJ Corporation. In the not-for-profit sector, he is on the Boards of Saint Mary's College, Memorial Health Foundation and the Stanley Clark School and on the Finance Committee of the Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana/Michiana.
His interest in Discovery stems from a commitment to alternative forms of delivery of the educational process, including charter schools, private schools and voucher programs and from an interest in supporting an activity in an area where he grew up and spent the first three years of his working life.
